Surfing legends Chris and Keith Malloy have spent years travelling around the world looking for the best undiscovered surfing spots. From Antarctica to Iceland and from Galapagos to New Caledonia, no matter how remote the place was, plastic was already there.

Early Morning

This has to be my favorite time of day. With a cup of tea and a few bananas in hand (possibly a bowl of porridge / muesli before) you head out into the crisp morning air, full of promise. Its fresh, your wetsuit is cold and wet from good times past and it’s early. The birds are looking at you wandering what the heck you are doing, if there are any other people around they are thinking the same but you continue, drawn in by the energy of Neptune. The question, is it worth it, or what the heck am I doing never once crosses your mind. This is surfing, we love it, its always worth it.

Another magic board we ride all the time is this little badboy, the Cole BD3

This is the 5-2 version with 5 fin boxes and quad channels all amounting to an amazingly fun board to ride in much more conditions than you’d think. This board will grovel with the best of them but it will also take on Hawaiian’s Neptune as you’ve probably seen with Naki riding his 5-0 version all over the place.

You can really exploit the design in this board with 5 fin boxes allowing you to switch it up in all kinds of ways. If your thinking 5-2 is just way too short push it out of your head, between us here at surfingeurope we ride regular shortboards from 5-11 up to 6-3 and everyone that gets on this thing loves it. I think the perfect marriage of size and technology comes in the 5-1 version just recently released.

Nick Lloyd hails from Braunton and likes to fish, surf and eat cakes…
Nick has been getting into Bessell surfboards and recently got himself the Aviso 5 9 Bessell Bad Ray which he loves, the Bad Ray is a great shortboard option to have in the quiver and it complements Nick’s Bessell 6 0 thruster shaped by Tim.

The Cole BD3

The BD3 is the board Cole originally created for the Japanese market, surfers wanted a board small enough to fit in the trunk of their cars, and with a huge Japanese clientele Cole was the man for the job, the BD3 is what he came up with, aptly named “The Trunk Board”.
