When the surf is good, this board is my first choice.
It is hollow, carbon fiber. It does flex, and ithe deck and bottom flex independently of each other. You can almost feel the texture of the water as you skim acrossed it.
Because it is so light there is a tendency for it to chatter and vibrate in windy or choppy conditions. Because it is so light it has less resistance while paddling and therefore has very good acceleration for getting into waves or just going for a bit of distance. The board is a little narrow for the beginners and some riders have thought it to be tippy, I am used to it so I find it to be just stable enough that I can stand comfortably in flat water. The rails a rather round with some bite underneath. The bottom has a large ‘Vee” bottom much like the old “Vees” from the early seventies.
This “vee” adds some nice side slippage and really swings you out of bottom turns which adds speed to your down the line projection. I am using a 9″ True Ames Flex fin to add to the spring.
It has a flatter rocker than most SUP’s so dropping into the wave is a little more exciting. My overall impression for this board is that you need some good waves and it is not for beginners. It surfs at a higher level than most SUP’s.
